2011 Legislative Assembly election - Mr. C Krishnan who was the candidate of CPIM which is the part of Left Democratic Front won from the Payyanur Legislative assembly election with the margin of 32124 votes. In 2014 Mr P Karunakaran (CPIM) reaches first place with 75167 votes. and T siddique(INC) was the runner up. BJP candidate K. Surendran got third place with 12878 votes.
